Saturday, April 24th "Little Buddha" Directed by Bernardo Bertolucci; with Keanu Reeves and Bridgett Fonda.
Little Buddha is an enjoyable, at times powerful, and ultimately - a highly entertaining film. It is rare to see a movie that is devoid of sex, violence, and special effects, that not only entertains you, but also uplifts your spirit and leaves you with a positive feeling. This movie has undoubtedly educated many Americans about the roots of Buddhism. The "ancient" part of the story in particular is beautifully done, and portrays Buddhism as a compassionate teaching borne of Buddha's insight into the truth of impermanence. The film also focuses on Buddha's great compassion which he developed out of an awareness of universal suffering. In Little Buddha, this truth, along with a modern day story about the search the reincarnated teacher, is powerfully and unforgettably portrayed.
